Cain is a pure blood mage born into a prestigious and ancient line of powerful, English mages. His mother, Olivia Eva Remington, is a famous seer. His father, Benedict Lewis Remington, is a successful duelist and politician. Cain has an elder brother who intends to go into law enforcement, although his father hoped for him to go into politics like himself. Cain's actual name is Abel Emil Remington. All of the Remington family live in Cambridge.

A natural when it comes to magic; Abel is somewhat of a prodigy. His ability to use and understand magic outpaces those of his age and even those that are his senior. He also is a natural mind reader to the point where he can hear thoughts in passing and have a basic feel of peoples' emotions through them. No one is sure exactly when Abel developed the ability, as he didn't speak about it for awhile nor did it become a problem right away.

Growing up in a rich and established household gave him the best possible education. He grew up with tutors in every possible subject that he could have wished for. His household had a rather lavish and extensive library and access to and endless amount of knowledge if need be. He had servants at his beck and call. More or less, Abel grew up in a very privileged setting.

Despite that, many have attested that he was always a polite and sweet child; never asking for much and generally doing as he's told to do. He had a penchant for trouble and playing tricks and the sort as he grew, but nothing that was particularly terrible (a comparison made with his brother, who was apparently a nightmare of a child). Abel was fond of either hiding himself in the library with whatever books he could get ahold of or wandering the estate grounds. He was particularly fond of hiding when he had boring meetings and lessons to attend. His relationships with the staff and his brother were positive, but his relationship with his parents were estranged at best. His parents were more focused on his elder brother, whom was meeting all their expectations by a huge margin. Abel was left to his own devices and nurtured by the staff of the estate and often forgotten by his parents. While he was still given a proper education and was cared for, his parents didn't care much for what he did.

Eventually, Abel was sent to a prestigious, private boarding school (his brother had previously gone) when he was old enough to be enrolled (eleven years old). It was a given that he needed to be socialized passed the gates of the estate, but still considered better than the average rift raft. Abel seems to do very well in class and seems well liked by the other students. As time progresses though, Abel becomes more withdrawn. The classwork bores him and his better understanding of the classes pushes many away from him. Abel himself seems to also detach himself from others and starts keeping to himself more. Students and teachers note Abel's change in behavior, although his parents never bother to look into as to why.

It wasn't until during a large Christmas party being hosted at the school that Abel's behavior was properly looked into. Abel was fourteen at the time and ended up having a mental breakdown of some sort. He had become completely catatonic and his magic became unstable. Nothing serious happened as he was pulled out of the situation and hospitalized. It's then that doctors informed that Abel had the ability to read minds and that the child was probably overwhelmed with the large amount of people surrounding him. They likely conclude that Abel's change in behavior was due to his abilities manifesting without a true understanding of what was happening (part of it being true, but Abel had truly been very bored with the work and put in minimal effort in his coursework and some didn't like his lazy attitude).

An argument ensued between Abel and his parents as Abel still wished to participate at the school, while his parents wished to take him out. They didn't want others knowing of Abel's innate ability, but his father wished to make use of its ability. While he wasn't the most popular student, he still had friends and made top marks and didn't think there was any reason for him not to finish his studies, but he was ultimately forced back home. His relationship with his parents were already strained as is and forcing him to back did nothing to help the crumbling relationship.

Abel became very rebellious. While he was kind to the staff of the estate, he did whatever he could to enrage his parents. He stopped attending his private tutor sessions and was often escaping out to the large grounds around the estate for periods of time. He often skipped meals if he had to have them with his parents and he was often sneaking off the estate completely. He often fought with his father with some of their arguments becoming physical. Many times he ended up getting punished; mostly physically. Abel became bitter and resentful and unhappy at home. His brother, who was abroad, could do very little at the time and had no idea the severity of the situation.

It's during a visit home from his brother that the situation seems to come to a head. Abel and his father get into another physical altercation. At this point, Abel is sixteen. The same night after his fight with his father, Abel intends to run away from the estate, but is caught by his brother. The two have a heart to heart conversation where Abel relays what has been happening, as he couldn't mention them in letters nor did his parents say anything in their own. His brother decides to help Abel run away and directs him to a friend's estate. The family was a mix of magic and nonmagic alike. A good standing family, but completely ignored by many of the old purebloods for not being a completely pure family. Abel runs away to the Scarlett family in Sussex.

The Scarlett family are told ahead of time about the circumstances and take Abel in happily. Abel is despondent and left to his own devices for a few days. He ends up in a catatonic state for a few days with the flurry of events catching up to him. The family is warm and accepting and a stark contrast to what he had with his parents and upsets him at first. He finally gathers himself up after a few days and properly introduces himself to them. It's at this point that he introduces himself as Cain and the family doesn't question it and accepts his choice.

Cain spends a year acclimating to the household and average society, the latter being fairly difficult. Despite the difficulties, Cain becomes much happier in his new setting.

He decides he has no interest in the intricacies of the magic community and wouldn't really be able to because of his father's influence. Cain doesn't give up his magic, but decides to go into a career that doesn't involve it. His father was a high ranking politician in the magic community and his mother a seer. It would be impossible for him to take any work within the field without being caught and found out. While his brother is willing to help him (his brother was a strong believer of doing what was right and not necessarily what followed the law), he knew better than to tempt fate. Cain decides to go into music; something that he was already skilled and fond of.

Cain goes to New York to attend Juilliard School for music at eighteen. He has discarded his old identity and now goes by Cain Augustin Amadeus Scarlett. He's a very talented musician with his focus being on piano, but being able to learn and play any instrument. He plays mostly piano and violin, but also is fond of the cello. Cain graduates at the age of twenty-three.

He has mixed feelings about New York life as he's mixed between loving it and absolutely hating it. He loves the bustle and night life, but hates it because it's rather loud and unruly. Cain becomes a popular performer and mostly stays in New York, but visits his brother and the Scarlett family often. He integrates himself into the magical community in New York to keep up with his magic skills and tends to avoid it back home in England as precaution. He's able to keep up with his magic studies due to the Scarlett family and his brother's influence.

Cain often travels between New York and Europe.

CRAU History & Impact: Cain is returning back to Deerington with his Deerington memories intact.

Personality:
Cain is a man of many layers and a walking contradiction to himself.

On the surface, he's nothing less than a charming man. He has a witty and dry sense of humor to him and has an easy smile. Cain seems like the life of the party and easily the type of person who gets the attention of others with his appearance, charm, and confidence. He's particularly sassy and is relentless with his sharp tongue and playful attitude. Teasing other was far too entertaining and he does it out of fun and far from malicious.

Cain seems like a natural flirt with his playful attitude. The man is absolutely shameless in his wants and quite forward about it too. If he has interests in others, he will definitely make it known. He doesn't shy away from such things and approaches it in a confident manner. He likes to play coy and loves a good game.

Underneath all that is a more honest version of Cain. In reality, the charming and witty man that he presents himself as is nothing more than a very skilled act. A mask that he had developed over the years. A face that he easily uses, so no one ever picks up how he never tells people more about himself than he needs to and that he can keep everyone away at arm's length. He easily makes up lies about himself to fit a narrative and to keep others away from any truths he doesn't want them to know about him.

The reality is that Cain doesn't have a good grasp of other people. His upbringing had only let him get a taste of socializing normally and he forced himself to fit in after while keeping the image of being nothing too extraordinary. He's hard pressed to form lasting bonds or trust other enough to make them. A man with many acquaintances but very little in terms of true friendship. The mask is a protection for himself because he's honestly afraid of forming anything deep with others.

It isn't even to say that he hates people. He's fascinated by them. Completely enamored by them. He's simply afraid of them and quite unsure how to approach people or to befriend them. It seems rather weird that he can't, given how he can easily talk to others, but he's just particularly good at playing pretend.

Cain just can't imagine people being interested in him. He's much more withdrawn than he acts and he's downright neurotic and nervous. His innate psychic abilities constantly puts him on edge and his nerves are, more or less, always shot. He easily gets stressed out and can easily be overwhelmed. It's why he prefers to honestly keep to himself and limit his social interactions (a bit of a hard thing to do given that he made a career out of performing of all things). He needs to have some form of control to keep him weighed down. His inability to control his abilities and having very little control of his life growing up has made him a bit of a control freak. Any bit of it keeps him grounded and he stresses out when he loses it.

He's an empathetic and gentle man deep down. Cain is a bit of an empath, which kind of comes with the package. He's a true romantic who loves the idea of falling in love in a perfect flurry or true love. Cain is the type of person who can easily fall in love or grow attached to others, which really does make it difficult for him, since he has the tendency to try and push others away at the same time. He's fiercely loyal at heart and protective of others that he truly treasures. And he does truly treasure the people that grow close to him. Cain is earnestly a bit of a playful spirit deep down, but far more gentle and loving.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
Psychic: Cain is a natural psychic. Most of the time, it comes out as whispers and he generally doesn't pay attention to what people are thinking because of it. The whispers become louder if he concentrates on them and properly tries to "read" the thoughts of others. He's unable to completely block them out though as the ability is innate and he doesn't have a proper enough control to block them out completely. He becomes easily overwhelmed when thoughts become too loud or too jumbled. The more emotional people are, the louder they can become without him concentrating on them. Cain tries to avoid crowded or loud places as the onslaught of thoughts easily exhaust and overwhelm him even when he makes a conscious effort to try and ignore it. He has the ability to read thoughts clearly and pick up the emotions of others (through taste), but seems to do his best with not being invasive.

While Cain is a natural psychic/empath, I'm changing his power warping. Normally, he would have difficulty blocking thoughts and emotions out, as he has no control over these particular abilities and they're rather strong. Instead, it will become very difficult for him to hear the thoughts of others. He has to concentrate and expend energy to hear someone's thoughts. For emotions, he generally has a certain taste that correlates with each emotion. This will also be hard for him to pick up on unless it's a particularly strong expression, where it is easier to pick up.

Magic: Cain is considered a prodigy in magic. He naturally has a very good handle on his magic and was quickly outpacing those of his age and those considered his senior. He's basically a natural and a powerful one at that. Although he doesn't seem like it, he does keep up with his magic studies to not diminish his ability. He prefers using them for more mundane tasks. His magic is so strong that it becomes unstable when he's under too much stress. He generally pretends he's of average skill. Cain's magic for more mundane and simple spells probably won't see much change. For stronger and more volatile magic; Cain will find that it's harder to control it and his spells will likely to have some negative side effects. They'll either lose control or it'll affect him (ie: getting burned by fire spells).

If Cain tries to heal anyone with his magic, he will heal their injuries and receive them instead. Attempts to heal himself will result with the injury changing to a different part of his being.
